Q. What is a T1?
A. T1, also known as a DS1 ( Digital Signal 1) is a T-carrier signaling scheme devised by Bell Labs. DS1 is a widely used standard in telecommunications in North America to transmit voice and data between devices. Technically, DS1 is the transmission protocol used over a physical T1 line; however, the terms "DS1" and "T1" are often used interchangeably. A DS1 circuit is made up of twenty-four 8-bit channels.
Q. What is beneficial about a T1?
A. The benefits of a dedicated T1 bandwidth include:

For smaller businesses, a fractional T1 can serves as a cost effective way to get the benefits of T1 bandwidth at a fraction of the costs. A fractional T1 is available in capped 384 Kbps increments. It allows you to choose your usage levels at a predetermined monthly cost.
Q. When should I consider a T1?
A. If your business has more than 8 phone lines or more than $750 in telecom billing you should consider T1 bandwidth. The switch will allow for superior service at much lower costs.
Q. How many simultaneous phone calls can be made over a T1?
A. A digital T1 line is equivalent to 24 normal external (analog) phone lines. Your business can make 24 simultaneous external calls, have high speed Internet connections or a combination of both. Depending on call volume, 24 simultaneous external calls can satisfy the needs of 24 to over 100 individual phone users.
